French fries, also known as chips or simply fries, are a popular side dish made from thin slices of potatoes that are fried until crispy. They are a staple food in many countries and can be enjoyed on their own or as an accompaniment to a main dish.
Ingredients:
4 large potatoes
Vegetable oil for frying
Salt to taste
Instructions:
Peel the potatoes and cut them into thin, even slices. Soak the slices in a bowl of cold water for at least 30 minutes to remove any excess starch.
Heat oil in a deep-fryer or a heavy-bottomed pan to 350F (175C).
Drain the potato slices and pat them dry with a paper towel.
Carefully place the potato slices into the hot oil, working in small batches so as not to crowd the pan. Fry for 3-4 minutes or until the fries are golden brown.
Using a slotted spoon, remove the fries from the oil and drain them on a paper towel.
Sprinkle the fries with salt while still hot, and serve immediately.
Tips:
For crispier fries, you can fry them twice. Start by frying them at a lower temperature (around 325F) for 2-3 minutes, then remove them from the oil and let them cool for a few minutes before frying them again at a higher temperature (around 375F) for another 2-3 minutes.
You can also add different seasonings to your fries for a unique flavor, such as garlic powder, paprika, or herbs.
French fries can also be made in an air fryer, they will come out crispy and healthier than deep frying
